Correspondence regarding Covid-19

The School remains closed until further notice

updated on the 23rd March 2020

An update from the JT Team.

Our main focus this week is doing whatever we can to support the pupils who have the most complex health and care needs, in conjunction with the Local Authority. This may involve asking available staff to step outside their usual roles, if necessary. We would always go the extra mile for our pupils and will help in any way we can. Your son/daughter's class teacher will be contacting you frequently to check in and see if there is anything you need. If we can help we will and can signpost where needed. The advice remains that the safest place for anyone is at home.
We continue to work closely with the Local Authority and have already given a list of staff names to start this process off. We know the pupils attending the Steven Wiltshire Centre will appreciate a familiar face!
For our families on free school meals we will be in touch soon to let you know how you can receive additional support for meal provision.
Please do use the school contacts in your family packs to get in touch for any reason at all.
Please look after your loved ones and stay safe. Thinking of you all

At Jack Tizard School, therapy is integrated into every pupil's day. We believe that incorporating therapy principles into a pupil's daily life is the best way to help them to achieve his/her potential. Our main aim within Jack Tizard School, is to help children and young people to learn how to advocate for themselves and be as independent as possible.
The therapy team consists of Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. We often work together to make the best of everyone's expertise, and ensure we are all working towards the same goals. All of the therapists work closely with the teachers and teaching assistants to ensure that the recommended activities or exercises for specific pupils are integrated into the school setting.
The Jack Tizard School therapists' communicate with parents/carers regularly and we welcome their input. Parents, carers and other professionals can contact us at school for a chat or to ask us to see a particular child or young person. This could be via a phone call, email, spoken in person, in a written letter/note, via the home-school communication book, or in the messages book in the therapy office at school. Please click on the links below for more information on the individual therapies at Jack Tizard School.

The occupational therapist works with our pupils to help them to be as independent as possible, in their day-to-day activities. The occupational therapist may provide advice, special equipment and / or therapy input to help children and young people be more successful in completing the activities important to them - such as playing, learning at school and self care tasks.

The Speech and Language Therapy team at Jack Tizard School endeavours to develop and support your child so they can express themselves and understand the world around them. There are many ways to communicate and with the support of school staff we will find out which way is best for your child.

The physiotherapy team is here to help Jack Tizard pupils achieve their maximum physical potential. We use a wide range of skills to problem solve your child’s difficulties and through an individualised assessment, we provide personalised programmes that help your child progress to their physical potential. Whether your child is learning to improve their head control so they can make eye contact with you when you talk with them, or is starting to stand and walk and wants to explore their surroundings more safely and confidently, we aim to help them go one step further.

We are very lucky to have many speciality services come into our school to run their clinics on a regular basis throughout the year. By having these clinics based at our school, pupils miss out on less school time to attend appointments. Families often report that it is easier for them to travel to school clinics rather than to the hospitals, and usually, our pupils feel much more comfortable being seen at school than in an unfamiliar setting.
Some of the clinics we offer at Jack Tizard School include:

  • Splint clinic (for all students at Jack Tizard School)
  • Wheelchair clinic (For pupils with a GP registered in the boroughs of Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham or Kensington & Chelsea).
  • Orthotics clinic
  • Orthopaedic clinic
  • Medical clinic
  • Dental clinic
